THE GAMBIA YOUTHS ORGANIZATION WINS AFRICAN TOURNAMENT
IN HHARLEM (NYC)

No mercy for the Senegalese ACM Manhattan team after
the Gambian Youths Organization (GYO) victoriously
scored 2 goals to win the trophy and became the newly
crowned champions of the African Tournament in New
York City. The Senegalese however, scored 1 goal by
penalty given to them by the referee when the ball hit
GYO midfielder Lamin Jammeh at the stomach. GYO team
disputed the call as unjust call because the ball
didn’t hit Lamin Jammeh’s hand as it was claimed by
the officials. However, we took the responsibility and
stayed focused until our moment arrived. It was the
moment of the truth, as our superstar (9) Shabban
caught the ball passed by Lamin Jammeh on the left
wing from the midfield. He pushed the ball dribbling
Senegalese halfback-left player and shooting 35 meters
away from the goalkeeper to ignite a fantastic goal of
the tournament. The crowd tangled in commotion and
celebrated the equalizing goal.
Our anticipation and desire to win didn’t end there.
We continued playing solid and skillfully as we notice
the officials weren’t in our favor. The wining goal
came at the final 10 minutes of the second half when
our last defender hit a ball that went overhead the
Senegalese last defender allowing Lamin Ceesay (2nd
midfielder) scrambled for the ball beating the defense
of the Senegalese players and headed one on one with
the goalkeeper. He dribbled the goalkeeper and beat
him on the dribble to score the wining goal that
sealed us a victory.
It was a joyous moment as we came from nowhere to win
the championship. This is our first time joining the
tournament. We won five games to get here. Our
victories are as follows: Guinea Conakry (3 to 1),
Ghana (2 to 1), Cameroon (3 to 1), Cincinnati (5 to
0), Senegal (2 to 1).
We’re thanking everyone who supports our cause all
these 3 years since this organization was formed. At
the ceremony, special regards were given to the GYO
President Mr. Momodou S. Sawaneh, Coach Samuel Yo,
Sport Captains (Saikou Demba and Ousman Jammeh) and
all the players who made this victory possible. We
look forward to do it again next year. We’re also
eying to capture Atlanta July 4th tournament trophy
next year. God Bless us all. Long live the Gambian
Youths Organization in NYC.

We're having a Barbeque/Picnic at Crotona Park on
Boston Road in the Bronx on Sunday July 28th to
celebrate our victory. Everyone is invited. It is
free. For more information call 917-974-1095.

Organization)
