"Directors commended the [Gambian] authorities for their implementation of strong financial policies over the past 18 months, which has led to an improvement in the basic primary fiscal surplus, a reduction in inflation, the stabilization of the exchange rate, and the rebuilding of international reserves. Directors noted that the improved macroeconomic conditions had paved the way for the recent easing in interest rates." IMF Public Information Notice (PIN) No. 05/121 September 8, 2005.

Once again Mr. Mbai you are confusing the trees for the forest and doing injustice to the Gambia government whilst you are at it. The IMF report is very balanced although pushing the Jammeh government to take some very anti-social policies in order to satisfy debt obligations. Measures such as stopping petroleum-oil price subsidies and phasing out tax exemptions for basic food stuff such as rice shall have immediate disturbing effects on poor Gambians.
And beyond a doubt the opposition shall exploit these unfortunate circumstances by offering political solutions to an economic problem.
