Yes, indeed! And he sure do act like it and then some. Parliaments under
Jawara put it in the books, and Yaya is feasting on it. Jawara was above
the law and Yaya now give it a new and improved meaning - Yaya is now the
Judge, Jury, and executioner, and is now anointed by the Imam for lord of
all. What we have in substance is a Monarchy, all and sundry better stock
up on kola Nuts and Bitter Cola to plead for mercy and take responsibility
for treason when you are very very innocent. The Justice is just
interpreting what the legislators put in the books.

One would think that recent acts by the Assembly and Yaya's continuous
assault on Gambians would make all the opposition leaders see the wisdom in
contesting the NA seats tactically. NADD and GPDP see the wisdom in
contesting the NA seats tactically, and would do so, even if the UDP/NRP
want to contest every where, even those places they know they will clearly
loose. UDP and NRP on the other hand sees it otherwise and to them it is
now time to settle a score with NADD, in my opinion. I am sure even their
supporters in the diaspora are shaking their heads why UDP/NRP would want
for Halifa to loose his seat, even if that means the APRC wins it. UDP is
going to make it a three way race in Sere Kunda Central. Some may say, all
have a right to contest any seat and that is true, but remember the
operative phrase here is "tactical alliance among the opposition" for the
"opposition" to win more seats and therefore, have a better chance at
slowing down the rubber stamp that currently obtains. What would the UDP
gain contesting in Sere Kunda Central and in Wouli East? Nothing, but the
gratification that they settled a score with Halifa? Is this the kind of
leadership that Gambians expect within the opposition? Is this not vengeful
and vindictive? Are these the people Gambians see as the future? This is
not about being negative, but rather, calling out a consistent attitude that
the UDP carries every where. At a time when Gambians look for a mature
opposition, the immaturity in some quarters continues. Is there hope for
Gambia, with this behavior? Truly amazing. How on earth could one take the
rationale for a tactical alliance to mean, NADD is therefore afraid that
they will loose their their seats, because of the UDP challenge. It is a
shame that something as simple as a tactical alliance is lost for a tunnel
vision. Again, the UDP/NRP believe they can WIN IT ALL. God Help Gambians!

“NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW, EXCEPT THE PRESIDENT”

MAGISTRATE MBACKEH

By Bubacarr K. Sowe & Fabakary B. Ceesay

Magistrate Abdoulie Mbackeh of the Kanifing Magistrate Court on Tuesday
said, “No one is above the law, except the President.” Advising accused
persons and complainant (s) before him, the Magistrate said despite the fact
that he is a magistrate; he will face the consequences if he violates the
law. He urged them to desist from provoking each other, stressing that he
will send any of them to jail, if they are found to be guilty of provoking
another persons.

He noted receiving two fresh cases that are related to the matter of
provocation. “I am not saying the accused are guilty, but desist from
provocation,” Mr. Mbackeh advised. He advised the parties to live in harmony
as neighbours, urging them to go away from petty talks that ignite quarrels
among them.
