EDITORIAL
SAY NO JAMMEH'S ILL GOTTEN WEALTH- AS WE CONDEMN THE UNRULY BEHAVIOUR OF
JAMMEH'S GUARDS
September 17, 2005
It is time for Gambians to stop receiving money from dictator president
Yahya Jammeh. These monies he is donating in the name of sports, unity, you
name them, are questionable. Men and women of substance should avoid being
victims of Jammeh's ill gotten wealth.

Here is a president who earns a monthly salary of less than $1,500 dollars.
How comes that he can donate $10,000 dollars to his supporters here in the
United States? Is Jammeh richer than The Gambian government? Was Jammeh born
rich? Hell no. Jammeh was born poor like any other Gambian.

Mr. President, while you are donating thousands of dollars to your so called
supporters in the US, the average Gambian is starving. Rice, which is
Gambia's main staple food is out of rich to the poor men and women in the
streets of Banjul and the countryside. What is the rationale behind your
senseless spending spree? Who are you trying to impress? We doubt if you are
a man of conscience. How can you engage in such an irresponsible activities,
when your own citizens back home are dying of hunger? Jammeh you need to
grow up and stop the madness.

It is our contention that all these monies being spent by Jammeh be
documented for posterity purposes. Any future government should hold you
accountable for the economic crimes you have committed against our country.
There are sufficient evidence to suggest that you are living beyond your
means as a President. All these monies you spending came from our National
coffers and we will prove this one day. Sooner or later the truth will be
known.

We at the ALLGAMBIAN, will continue to thank our loyal and dependable
sources who working day and night to keep us posted about Jammeh's corrupt
and dubious monetary activities. We salute you for your patriotism and
dedication to National duty.

The Gambia belongs to all of us and not Yahya Jammeh. He pretends as if he
owns The Gambia and her people. Jammeh also behaves as if he owns the
Central Bank, the treasury, the airport and other revenue collections
centres across the country. Nobody in these institutions dared to turn down
his dubious monetary transactions.

Jammeh has no moral justification whatsoever, to criticise the deposed PPP
administration. He is a victim of his own making. All the corruption and
maladministration lies he peddled against Sir Dawda and his ministers is the
opposite today. We are seeing more corruption today in The Gambia. The
Gambia is today reduced to a hunger Nation. There is destitution everywhere
in the country. Hopelessness and economic uncertainties continue to grip
Citizens.

We can comfortably say that Yahya Jammeh is a curse to The Gambia and her
people. He is a failed self imposed leader without any moral character. This
was not the type of leader Gambians yearned for in the early days of the
coup. The former PPP government have good reasons to come back and reclaim
our country from this useless President. We don't want a President who will
personalised state gifts and take them as his personal property. We don't
want a President who will transfer our funds into overseas bank accounts. We
don't want a President who will conspire with local business entrepreneurs
to execute contracts with the sole aim of expecting kick backs. We don't
want a President who will own business establishments both at home and
abroad.

The Gambia needs a new leader who will have the country's interest at heart.
For now, we are in wrong hands. Under Jammeh's rule, there is no meaningful
development realised. Instead, we are witnessing underdevelopment and
misplaced policies. White elephant projects are at stand still.

Going by our Sunday lead story, the Jammeh regime is extending its
persecution against Gambians in the United States. Our security personnel
behaved as if they are in The Gambia. You are in the United States of
America and not tiny Gambia. Here is a free country with a lot of freedoms.
You cannot come here and trespass Gambians with impunity.

The harassment meted out to Saihou Mballow, Chairman of the New York Based
Movement For Democracy and Development was uncalled for and illegal. Mballow
has a good case against Jammeh and his delegation. It is just a matter of
getting a lawyer who will advise him to press harassment charges against his
security who are ignorant of the laws of this land. Don't think that you are
immune from prosecution while in the United States. It is a crime to
threaten any one with violence or harassment in the US, just like in the
case of The Gambia. Please take note of this.

Your arrogance and total disrespect for the rule of law, should stopped in
The Gambia. Don't come here and start behaving otherwise. Mballow should use
his case as a test case to teach lesson to these murderous and arrogant
Jammeh body guards. We feel insulted that you have the guts to harass us in
a free country like the United States.

By this editorial, we are urging pro democracy activists and the US State
Department to join us in condemning the mistreatment meted out to Saihou
Mballow and his colleagues by Jammeh's body guards. We believe this is an
affront to democracy and the United State's cherished freedoms and
liberties. We condemn the unruly behaviour of Jammeh's guards in the
strongest terms.
