G-Lers, this is an update to our up coming Labor Day Conference, in Chicago.
We are extending this invitation to all. So, come one, come all. The venue
for the conference this year, is the Wyndham Northwest Hotel, in Itasca, a
Chicago suburb. The conference is scheduled to begin at 10:00am and end at
1:00pm, on September 2. We are going to have a panel of four speakers,
namely (not in order of importance): Dr. Sulayman Nyang, Professor,
Political Science, Howard University; Dr. Abdoulaye Saine, Professor,
Political Science, Miami University of Ohio; Mr. Abdoulie Swareh, Legal
Practitioner, Swareh and Associates; and Mr. John Bojang, Gambian Ambassador
to the US. The speakers will present the following topics, respectively:
Dr. Nyang will talk on “Gambia/Senegambian Political History -
Precolonial/Colonial to the Present, and the Implications on Gambians”; Dr.
Saine will speak on his political research in the Gambia or focus on the
first and second Republics and their implications on Gambians; Mr. Swareh
will speak on “The Legal Environment and the Rule of Law in The Gambia"; and
Ambassador Bojang will speak on “The Agenda/Program of the Second Republic
and the Achievements/Challenges, Since 1994”. Each speaker will be allotted
30 minutes, followed by a 10-minute question and answer session. Lunch will
be served immediately after. Later in the evening, 10:00pm to be exact,
there will be a dance party (party till you drop) and a fund raising raffle
with fabulous prizes. You may purchase your tickets for the raffle from
designated persons in your state or at the party.

On Sunday, September 3, there will be a soccer tournament - Amie N’jie
Memorial Tournament, named after our recently departed sister. Amie is
survived by her husband, Pa Amat Khan; sons M.O. John and Mam Tapha; father,
Papa Ibra N’jie; brothers, Tapha (Bill), Mansour (M), and Seringe Cherno;
sisters Bin and Haddy; and all that knew and loved her. We will miss her
and may she rest in peace. The tournament is tentatively scheduled to field
the following teams: Chicago, Detroit, Kansas, Madison, Minnesota, and the
Senegalese and Ivorian Communities in Chicago, respectively. Reliable
sources have it that Detroit and Minnesota have already started Camping. :)!

Due to the small size of the Gambian community in the Chicago area, we have
reserved 12 hotel rooms at very reasonable rates. Anyone interested can
contact Ous Conteh at (773) 465-2796, or [log in to unmask] This offer
expires after August 27.

This year’s conference is step two of our journey towards achieving our goal
of continuous improvement as we continue to build on the foundation that was
set last year. Let us all join our efforts and make this conference a
memorable occasion. We’ve got dynamic speakers and they are ready to give
it to us. So lets all come ON TIME and make this a success. If you have
any questions or suggestions, please contact Joe Sambou at Home (773)
768-8264; Work (630) 990-5097; [log in to unmask] We look
forward to seeing you all.

“Common Folks, Coming Together, Can Achieve Uncommon Results”.
