JAMMEH THE OLDEST STATE HOUSE TENANT-WHY SHOULD JAMMEH LEAVE?
Octoger 20, 2005
The said question has been lingering in the minds of Gambians for some
time now. Jammeh had not demonstrated his willingness to step down from
power at this hour. He had set up a vision 20-20 program, which among
other things was designed to improve the lives of poverty stricken
Gambians. Despite such white elephant projects, The Gambia is today
witnessing its worst economic and political crisis in history.

While Jammeh criticises deposed President Jawara for over staying in
power, he is today repeating the same scenario. The reasons he advanced
for his 1994, so called revolution were mere lies and deception. The
purpose of that widely condemned coup had been defeated in view of
Jammeh's greed and lack of consistency.

Jammeh should remember that any attempt on his side to further misrule The
Gambia will not be tolerated. He either step down now before it is too
late, or face the consequences of being "power drunken." Greed often
drives immature leaders such as Jammeh to go crazy and think that they own
their people and country. Remember Mr.President, the will of God is more
powerful than you and your irresponsible government.

The case of former Gambian statesman Sir Dawda Jawara should serve as a
lesson to you, to start considering to step down from power. When you came
in, you spread all kinds of lies against the old man and his Ministers.
Chief among your charges were lack of transparency, accountability and
self perpetual rule in The Gambia.

But guess what? You are repeating the same thing today. There is no
indication on your side to suggest that you will gracefully or honourably
leave that high office, which you often think was built by your ancestors.
To avoid disgrace, it is time to start packing. The wind of change is
blowing in almost every corners of The Gambia and it is just a matter of
hour or by the minute, we will witness the birth of the long awaited new
Gambia. This day is on its way-sooner or later.

Mr.President, we never intended to scare you in anyway, by making such
statements. We are reading the writings on the wall and we thought it
imperative to share what we saw with The Gambian community both at home
and abroad. Change is inevitable in The Gambia. We want to point out that
we at The ALLGAMBIAN, will not advocate for any violent means to effect
change in our dear mother . We believe in allowing the democratic process
to take its course on Jammeh. Gambians will kick you out from state house
come October 2006.

While gossips within the APRC camp, suggested that Jammeh may announce to
step down before the much talked about elections, others ruled out such
possibilities. They argued that Jawara was more democratic than the young
dictator, who will never venture into such a major political decisions.
Critics of Jammeh cited what they called his growing love for power and
wealth.

Whatever the case might be, Jammeh has a window of opportunity to pack his
"dabass" or belongings if you like to return to his Kanilai home village
and continue with his high scale farming activities. Jammeh should do
justice to himself and The Gambia and consider leaving the sate house. We
do know that there are lot of comfort and privileges the Presidency
enjoys- but Jammeh remember the wollof adage which says"Ngoor ken duko
nyenet" in short one cannot stay in power forever.

Jammeh, you have over stayed your welcome. Your hosts say it is time to go
back to kanilai and farm. We can comfortably say you are the oldest State
house tenant. Jawara is history now. Our statement is based on your
previous utterances. We refer you to your early days speeches as a
military Chariman. Such tapes are available at the GRTS archives for
public consumption. You can go ahead and ask Borra or your uncle Momodou
Sanyang to give you the tapes to listen to your past rantings to hand over
the country in a span of ten years. Now we are heading to 20 years, under
Jammeh's rule. Pretty soon he will over take DK, whom he accused of
overstaying in power. Jammeh, are you fair with the old man? You need to
apologise to Jawara and his Minister for waging an unjustified coup
against them. There was no justification for the 1994 coup. Does it make
any sense for the kettle to call the pot black? Whether you like it not
Jawara was far better than you. He was democratic, when you are not. He
was transparent, when you are not. He was a respecter of the law, when you
are not.

We are convinced that the boys you teamed up with to overthrow the
democratically elected government of Jawara, must be disappointed by your
actions. This was not the "gentlemanly" agreement you had with them, when
you came in 1994. You have forcefully retired our talented soldiers,
perceived to be a threat to your government and offered them government
jobs. Little did such soldiers know that such appointments were calculated
to get rid of them. Some were detained and later sacked. lucky ones such
as Jali Yankuba Touray are still surviving Jammeh's hiring and firing.

Mr.President, The Gambia is at cross roads today. We believe that over
staying in power is not the solution. You should start asking your self
why every Gambian is piss of with your government. People cannot withstand
seeing the same Yahya on their TVs and official functions. They want a new
leader with a vision and sense of patriotism. You should revisit the oath
you took when voted into office some four years ago. You are not
practicing what you sworn to.

There is no point to continue to stay at state house, when you are not
meeting the expectations of Gambians. Yahya, can you tell us, what
developments you have initiated since 1994, other than underdevelopment
and maladministration. There is none as far as we are concerned. Honest
and patriotic Gambians will never be deceived by your "politricks." If you
were to be rated or given a report card, we wouldn't hesitate to fail you
Jammeh. You are not delivering. We want to see your immediate departure
from state house without any rancour or push an pull. You have not only
fail the test of time, but the hopes and expectations of Gambians. Yahya,
it is time to pack your "dabas" and leave. Are you waiting for the kanilai
train to take you home? Time is running out Jammeh. Please leave, leave
before it is too late. Do you want Banjulians to help you to pack your
dabas? Just let us know. We rest our case.
