       Karamba,
                Reading through your expose on Georgetown I have no doubt
that you know this town well.I could see myself reliving Georgetwn as I read
through your article.
         Unfortunately, Maccaryhy,as the locals would sometime refer to
it,has lost all its glamor.Infact this is not only true of Georgetown but of
most of the riverine towns of the Gambia like Kaur,Kantaur,etc.After leaving
Armitage School for years ,I visited the town and most of the  vivid
descriptions you made are just history now.Georgetown is but a ghost town
today.Even the village on the north bank (Laminkoto?) is more vibrant than
this once renoun divisional headquater.
                  Perhaps the question of how to revive the economies of
these once vibrant riverine towns should be a topic of debate among list
members...
