As promised yesterday found below is the resolution agreed at the meeting of Gambian Association of Cincinnati on July 10, 2000 in a bid to dispatch/send the deceased's body to The Gambia in the shortest possible time.

After consultation with the funeral homes and airline companies, the total cost for this mission is around the region of US$8000.00.  This includes the escort's airfare for a round trip. 

Accordingly, Gambians in Cincinnati have levied a minimum contribution of US$150.00 to be paid atleast by Friday July 14.  This is in addition to whatever amount the Association will contribute towards the total bill.

In this connection, an adhoc account has been set up under the guidance of his uncle to manage the funds.  The details of which is thus:

Hence, we are soliciting donations towards this noble endeavour from all the Gambian Associations/Organisations around the world, Individuals and Friends and well-wishers of The Gambia.  All such donations in the form of checks(ques) and/or money orders should be sent to the above address.

For security purposes and by the dictates of conventional wisdom we have decided to withheld both the routing and account numbers to this memorial fund to avoid undue tampering.  Nonetheless, organisations and individuals who wish to conduct a bank to bank transaction/transfer may contact me in private at [log in to unmask] to obtain these numbers.  In the same vein, people who wish to verify the legitimacy or otherwise of the said fund may direct all such enquiries to (513) 281-1734 or send faxes to (513) 475-5935.

Finally, the last time I checked my mails, the response to this sad and unfortunate news was overwhelming.  Indeed the true spirit of Gambian-ness was shown.  In this regard, on behalf of the family, friends and Gambians in Cincinnati we say a big thank you to all those who sent in and plan to send in their condolences to the bereaved family.  May his soul rest in peace and may God bless us all.
