ST. JOHN’S UNIVERSITY – UNIVERSITY OF THE GAMBIA

It is an honor to address members of Gambia-L. I write to you from New York
City, from St. John’s University – HOST OF GAMBIA-L.

St. John’s University is in the process of finalizing a formal linkage with
the University of The Gambia. The linkage is intended for the promotion of
cooperation, cultural and scientific exchange between the institutions, in
the areas of liberal arts, business, economics, law, education and other
areas of interest. The linkage would call for an exchange of students and
faculty members.

This summer (May 12-26) we hope to have ten students visit The Gambia. WE
HAVE OPENED THE PROGRAM UP TO QUALIFIED STUDENTS OUTSIDE St. John’s
University. The price of the program is $2000 (airfare, lodging, just about
everything) and 3 credits of St. John’s tuition. For more information,
please contact me at [log in to unmask] It is interesting to note that a
Gambian-American student here at St. John’s plans to do the program – she
was planning a trip anyway and now receives credit!

One last item. In the near future we hope to begin offering MANDINKA for
credit at St. John’s University. We would be especially interested in
identifying a teacher/speaker of Mandinka from The Gambia. At this point
nothing has been formally established, but we are looking to identify
possible candidates (formal training in the languages/linguistics) for a
part-time position who reside in New York City. I would appreciate any
leads on this subject.

Many thanks.
