Dear Fellow Gambians,

I am deeply saddened and absolutely worried that in the eve of the 21st
Century when our beautiful country, The Gambia, which could have been in the
forefront of building bridges and strengthening cultural, diplomatic,
political, economic and military ties between countries in the sub-region is
instead on the brink of total collapse and, worst of all, on the brink of
CIVIL WAR. What is currently happening in the country today SHOULD GREATLY
CONCERN EVERY DECENT AND PATRIOTIC GAMBIAN CITIZEN, AND ALSO HER IMMEDIATE
NEIGHBORS LIKE SENEGAL, GUINEA BISSUA, MALI, MAURITANIA AND GUINEA CONAKARY.
The recent so-called accusations of nine hard working innocent Gambians of a
coup plot based on very flimsy evidences, and abducting them from their
family members, and when 99% of all those abducted are MANDINGOES, is a
clear depiction of an emergence of TRIBALISM at its best. A Country where
tribalism used to based on only a sheer cultural and traditional traits such
as: Teasing each other based on where they come from or what kind of
cultural food they eat, or whether someone would marry into a particular
tribe, or how someone talks faster than others, for the first time in her
history, is experiencing SERIOUS TRIBAL DISTINCTION.

Instead of such tribal traits such as: BADDIBOUKANKAS love to marry "jaabari
Wollof" or love to eat Benechin, or talk too fast, or the Wollofs are too
greedy or "foutoi rech", or Jollas are uncivilized or love "mbouroo butter",
President Jammeh has a serious agenda and strategy of cultivating into the
minds and souls of the average Gambian that there is a need for TRIBALISM.
This is very troubling, and every decent and patriotic Gambian who are
currently aware of the situation should redouble efforts to fight against
such insane trend prevailing in our beautiful and innocent country.

In conclusion, my fellow Gambians, please let's strive and work and pray, as
embedded in our National Anthem, to educate every Gambian that TRIBALISM
will destroy the very fabric of all those things we rightly value as a
nation. President Jammeh's agenda and strategy will only lead to the RWANDA
situation, where two tribes that used to dearly love each other became total
and bitter enemies and did went at each other and nearly extinct each other
entirely. It is not the common people of various tribes that come to hate
each other, but it is their leaders who often encourage and instigate such
brutal actions out of sheer power hungry. To that end fellow Gambians,
please let's keep fighting and educating our citizens, friends and neighbors
that love for each other, co-operation, and human decency is the only key to
cultural, social, economic and political advancement. MAY GOD BLESS THE
GAMBIA.

ANSUMANA KUJABI
CONCERNED CITIZEN
