Ivory Coast's commercial capital, Abidjan, has
returned to normal following a two-day military
uprising over a pay dispute. Correspondent Purnell
Murdock reports from Abidjan.

Abidjan's city streets bustled as people
hurried to work. Street vendors hawked their wares at
traffic lights, and banks and other businesses re-
opened.

Cars, taxis, and garbage trucks added to the morning
rush-hour crush and soldiers appeared to have
dismantled road barricades and returned to their
barracks.

Government officials and mutinous soldiers announced
late Wednesday that they had reached a compromise to
end the two-day pay dispute. But no details have
emerged.

Military ruler, Robert Guei, blamed the nation's
political parties for instigating the unrest and
warned such attempts would backfire.

Ivory Coast's Minister of Communication, Henri Cesar
Sama Damalan, warned on state television that the
government would use deadly force to maintain order.
