Following the talks in Dakar on Thursday and Friday, Yaya Jammeh told his Senegalese counterpart that he has suspended the ferry tariffs that led to the border closure.
According to the Senegalese daily, Sud Quotidien, President Jammeh has promised his Senegalese counterpart that henceforth his government will inform Senegal of any new tariffs as signed under the joint accord in October 2004.
Sud Quotidien says that President Wade has given instructions to his custom officials to open the borders as early as 6am on Saturday, October 22.
The two heads-of-state have also agreed to revive the Permanent Senegalo-Gambian Secretariat and talks will follow immediately after the Ramadan.
They have also agreed to seek funds from ECOWAS for the building of a bridge on the trans-Gambian. This, they hope, will finally resolve the ferry issue that has often brought conflict between the two neighbors.
