Amid all the euphoria surrounding this election campaign season, Gambians
must NOT forget about the plight of innocent and defenseless citizens such
as Dumo. We live in a sorry country when we have government-sanctioned thugs
abducting innocent citizens and incarcerating them indefinitely without a
proper trial. For months now these innocent citizens have been deprived of
their freedom on the basis of frivolous evidence and lies from pathological
liars like Foday Barry and an Italian thug that calls himself Yaya’s
body-guard.

What is sad is that our courts are impotent in the face of such blatant
lawlessness. The maxim ‘innocent until proven guilty’ means nothing in this
case. Citizens are being railroaded and no judge wants to hear the case.
Even granting the accused bail while the government engages in a ‘fishing
expedition’, is taboo in Gambian courts. News that a judge has finally
decided to hear the case after the court vacation is quite welcome. At least
now the accused will have a chance to be heard. I just hope that the judge
keeps his promise and let the law take its cause. This lawlessness is really
mind-boggling. No one is safe under these circumstances. All it takes is a
foreigner like that Italian rat to utter your name, and you are hoist to the
NIA for questioning and endless torture. We are in a state of siege, held
hostage by a bunch of bandits. The sooner the Gambians get rid of them, the
better.

Gambians should show their solidarity to these innocent citizens by going to
court with them to show them support and give them courage. Journalists in
the country should endeavor to cover the whole trial if and when it happens.
There is light at the end of the dark tunnel. Let us collectively show the
judge in this case that the accused are INNOCENT of these bogus charges. We
must ensure that the law of the land is administered fairly. At the end of
the day, the whole world will be informed of the government’s shenanigans.
This is the side of the Gambian Dictatorship that Yaya apologists want to
hide under the rug. But we CANNOT afford to just forget about these innocent
citizens that are being railroaded in broad daylight. This could have
happened to any one of us. Take the case of Yarbo for instance. Any Gamtel
employee that happened to cross paths with that Italian rat could have ended
up in Yarbo’s shoes. Any of us in the Diaspora that meant well for Gambian
children like Dumo did and went home to give back to society could have
ended in Dumo’s shoes. To the vermin running our country, you either have to
be a sell-out like Sarjo Jallow (and mortgage your soul to the Devil), or
you are plotting to remove them from power. Any one that does NOT subscribe
to their criminal behavior, is seen as ‘conspirator’ to overthrow the
government.

Gambians should put themselves in the shoes of these victims and come out
and fight for them. They are INNOCENT. All that Italian wanted was to get a
contract for guarding Yaya and living large after his failed restaurant
business. If innocent Gambians are killed in the process, the Italian rat
does NOT give a darn. We should value the lives of our brothers more than
this Italian rat and his boss (Yaya) values the lives of the Gambians. I am
just glad that this man will be paraded in a court of law for every one to
see him being grilled under cross-examination by legal heavy weights in the
country. I hope Dumo’s lawyers are readying for battle. The Gambians and the
international community has to be informed of anything our illegal does in
this case in order to thwart the wheels of justice.
