Headline: Senegal's president sacks PM, dissolves government

DAKAR, Nov 4 (Reuters) - Senegal's President Abdoulaye Wade
sacked Prime Minister Mame Madior Boye and the entire government
on Monday, state radio reported.

"The position of Mame Madior Boye as prime minister has been
ended," state radio quoted a presidential decree as saying.

"As a consequence the duties of other ministers have also
ended," the decree said.

According to the radio the outgoing government will continue
in a caretaker capacity until the appointment of a new one.

Boye, the first woman in the former French colony to be
appointed prime minister, had been in the job since May 2001.
She does not belong to any party.

There have been rumours in Senegal for months that the
president wanted to dissolve the government and appoint someone
from his own Senegal Democratic Party as prime minister.

"Consultations for a new government will start today
(Monday)," a source close to Wade told Reuters.

Senegal's defence and transport ministers resigned last
month after the Joola disaster, in which a ferry carrying more
than twice as many people as it was designed for capsized in
September with the loss of nearly 1,000 lives.

Anger against the government has been growing since the
extent of overloading was revealed. Wade was due to receive a
disaster inquiry report on Monday afternoon, officials said.
