Baba,

Ousainou Darboe expressed his ignorance and not a denial of the story. I believe there is an obvious difference... Ousainou is a very cunning politician, and I suspect that he gave an unacceptable ultimatum to the NADD executive committee. In any case the stonewalling by both Halifa and Ousainou is definitely not helping.

Regards,

Ebou

In my opinion, the headline for this story should have read UDP LEADER DENIES PULLING OUT OF NADD, or something along those lines. The Observer contacted Ousainou Darboe and he denied the anonymous source's report. That should have been the news. Just a thought.

[ This e-mail is posted to Gambia|Post e-Gathering by "Matarr ..." ] NADD FALLS APART? Written by Ebrima Jaw Manneh Monday, 08 August 2005 The main opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), has abandoned the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (Nadd), impeccable sources revealed to the Daily Observer yesterday.
According to our sources, the UDP will field its own candidates for the 29 September by-election.

Sources who spoke to the Daily Observer under the condition of anonymity, said this new political twist came up at a Nadd executive committee meeting held on Saturday.

This paper also gathered that PPP, NRP, Ndam and PDOIS are still part of the coalition.

An executive member of Nadd likens UDP’s withdrawal from the alliance to a “political suicide.” He added: “This is just similar to what Sherrif Mustapha Dibba did in 2001, when he broke away from the opposition coalition.

When contacted, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the UDP leader, denied the story, saying “This is the first time I have heard about it.”

Daily Observer tried in vain to reach Halifa Sallah.
