I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy and condolence to
Mrs. Isatou N'jie Saidy and family on the death of their
husband and father, Mr. Alhagie Jay Saidy, commonly known
as Uncle Jay.  May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Allah takes and Allah gives.  Only He alone knows why?

The death is sadly announced of Alhaji Jay Saidy which sad event
took place this afternoon at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Banjul,
The Gambia.

Alhaji Jay Saidy is survived by his wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Isatou
Njie-Saidy, Vice President of The Republic of The Gambia and his
four children, Mrs. Kumba Sowe, Mr. Malang Saidy, Ms. Mariama Saidy
and Ms. Aminata Saidy. He is also survived by numerous relatives
and friends.

Alhaji Saidy was currently the Chairman of The Gambian Chapter of
Transparency International.

He has had a long and distinguished service as a renowned Journalist,
Historian, Culture Promoter and a Champion of Good Governance.

As a journalist, Alhaji Saidy was the Editor In Chief of the Gambia
Daily Newspaper and later on he was the Editor at The Point Newspaper.


As a Civil Servant, he was the State House Press Officer for several
years.

As a Historian, he carefully researched and published several manuscripts
and papers on the historical aspects of The Gambia. His area of expertise
was in the recording of the History of his hometown of Janjanburey
in Central River Division.

As a promoter of Cultural Values, he was one of the Founders of the
Janjanburey Cultural Society and was the Secretary General of the
society.

Upto the time of his death, he was the Chairman of The National Council
on Arts and Culture.

Alhaji Jay Saidy was born in February 1934. He was in his 68th year.
He will be interned tomorrow, Thursday at his hometown of Janjanburey.
