HERE ARE A FEW OF MY COMMENTS ON THE NAWEC STORY (INTERSPERSED WITH THE NEWS
ACCOUNT):

>
>The Office of the President last evening issued a press release, announcing
>the removal of Alagie Conteh as managing director of Nawec.
>
>The release stated, "The Office of the President would like to inform the
>general public of the uncovering of a fraudulent contractual arrangement by
>the managing director of Nawec relating to the acquisition of a 6 megawatts
>Mirrlees Blackstone engine from MAN B&W in the UK.
>
>"The above contract, which was negotiated single-handedly by the managing
>director of Nawec was discovered not to be in the best interests of Nawec
>or
>the nation as the agreed cost of the 6 megawatts generator was found to be
>deliberately inflated. Investigations by His Excellency, the President,
>himself revealed that the managing director had reportedly claimed to the
>suppliers that he was dealing directly with His Excellency, the President
>and that a commission was expected to accrue to His Excellency for
>electioneering purposes in this transaction.

THE STORY (ABOUT A COMMISSION GOING TO JAMMEH) MAY HAVE BEEN FOUND
BELIEVABLE BY THE SUPPLIERS SINCE IT IS PROBABLY "DR." JAMMEH OR THE
REGIME'S M.O.
>

>"The managing director also deliberately misled the administration to
>believe that the generator would be installed and commissioned by July 2001
>when in actual fact, the commissioning of the said generator will take
>nothing less than ten months from contract effectiveness.

"DR." JAMMEH ALWAYS FINDS AN EXCUSE OR A SCAPEGOAT FOR HIS EMPTY PROMISES.
NOW THE TARGET DATE WILL BE MOVED UPWARDS BY ONE YEAR, AND A NEW SCAPEGOAT
IS IN THE MAKING.

It was
>also
>disclosed that the entire contract, which was privately negotiated by the
>managing director was signed by the managing director himself and Mr. Lamin
>Sanneh as witness on behalf of Nawec whilst Messrs D Cliff and Abou
>Dandeh-Njie signed on behalf of Mirrlees Blackstone Ltd.
>
>"The public is hereby informed that this fraud was discovered by His
>Excellency, the President, upon suspicion that the cost of the generator
>had
>been inflated.

MAY BE "DR." JAMMEH ASKED FOR HIS COMMISSION TO BE ADDED, AND THEN FOUND OUT
THAT IT HAD ALREADY BEEN TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WITHOUT HIS
KNOWLEDGE. HENCE THE FURY.

>
>"Under the circumstances, the managing director of Nawec (Alagie Conteh)
>has
>been relieved of his duties with immediate effect and the matter is being
>investigated further. All public officers are hereby being strictly warned
>to desist from such unbecoming behaviour as no effort would be spared in
>ensuring that culprits are severely dealt with."

THE WARNING SHOULD BE DIRECTED AT THE GOOD "DR." AND HIS CRONIES. IT'S ALSO
A LESSON FOR FOLKS NOT TO WORK WITH OR FOR THIS GANG REGARDLESS OF THE
FORMER'S NOBLE INTENTIONS. THE END RESULT IS ALWAYS THE SAME. YOU ARE
HIRED & ELEVATED; THEN FIRED & DISGRACED.

>
>Meanwhile, it is being speculated that Batch Baldeh, a former managing
>director of the utilities corporation, will succeed Mr. Conteh on the hot
>seat at Nawec.

AND HE STILL FINDS BAITS? SOME PEOPLE NEVER LEARN!
