NEWS
JAMMEH TO ATTEND BORDER PEACE TALKS IN DAKAR THURSDAY

BY OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

October 16, 2005
Sources reaching The ALLGAMBIAN online Newspaper, have unveiled border
peace talks negotiations between Gambian President Yahya Jammeh and his
counterpart President Abdoulie Wade to be held in the Senegalese Capital
Dakar on Thursday.

Our sources hinted that the said meeting is supposed to be spear headed by
Nigerian President Obasanjo, is geared towards finding a lasting solution
to the month long border impasse, which nearly crippled the economy of The
Gambia, which relied mainly on tax to meet its financial obligations.
Neighbouring countries, such as Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry and Mali are
also affected by the border impasse, as commercial vehicles filled with
merchandise are currently stranded in The Gambia.

Sources also hinted that the recent Lagos peace talks for The
Gambia/Senegal border to be reopened never materialised, as the said
meeting reached at a dead lock. Parties to the meeting could not reach to
a common understanding to doze the mounting border crisis, said our
sources. Consequently continued our sources, President Obasanjo decided to
invite both parties to the Senegalese Capital Dakar this coming Thursday
to brain storm on the said topical issue, which is threatening business
activities in the Sub-Region.
