The Senegalese daily Sud Quotidien posted on the sudonline web page has
posted a 10 page report by journalist Diatou Cissé Coulibaly about Cheikou
Sharifou, the Tanzanian child who has recently
held crowds, from Ivory Coast to The Gambia, in awe.

According to the report, the child who was recently given a
red-carpet treatment in both Senegal and The Gambia is in fact not the real
Cheikou Sharifou and the man who escorted him around was not his real uncle,
contrary to what he had claimed.

Diatou Cissé Coulibaly who had gone all the way to Tanzania to
investigate the identity of the child has expressed her profound
surprise to discover from different people in Dar-es-Salaam and
Zanzibar that the real Sharifou was never out of his country all this time.

Have the Gambian and Senegalese people been taken for a ride? What
about the new converts from other religions, will they start
regretting, if anything? If the report is true, I hope this will be a
lesson for the zealots who only jumped into the band-wagon when they heard
an innocent child reciting verses from the Holy Quran.
