                     BYJP, OUR BANJUL CORRESPONDENT

Gambia's President Yahya Jammeh yesterday vowed to deal with certain
members of the country's opposition and online journalists both at home
abroad, whom he accused of jeopardising Gambia's relationship with
neighbouring Senegal, The ALLGAMBIAN online Newspaper can reveal.

Addressing religious leaders at State House, shortly after the Koriteh
prayers, The Gambian leader said some of the unnamed opposition officials
and online journalists or writers will regret why they were born as he
unveiled a surprise "salibo" gift for them in weeks and months to come.
Jammeh in an angry tone, told religious leaders that some members of the
opposition and online writers were bent on sawing seeds of discord between
The Gambia and neighbouring Senegal, as they tried to fed the Wade
government with misleading information about the border impasse. Jammeh
said his government will deal with such individuals, whom he accused of
trying to destabilise The Gambia.

Speaking in the native wollof language, Jammeh charged that some of the
online writers were being used to destabilise The Gambia, but failed to
give names of individual(s) using such individuals to undermine his
administration. He claimed that while in Dakar, he was shown with what he
called a "damaging commentary article on The Gambia/Senegal border
impasse by his host" Jammeh vowed that all those trying to undermine his
government will pay for the price, as he unveiled plans to set a drastic
example against people under his hit list.

The Gambian leader speaking before an interpreter, said his government
also intercepted Gambia government letter heads purportedly signed by some
individuals who served his administration and were out to tarnish his
regime's image to the Wade government. He however, would not disclose the
contents of the said letters, but insisted that they were privy of such
damaging letters against his administration.

Jammeh told Muslim elders that his government had zero tolerance for such
individuals, as he threatened to jail Gambians in weeks to come. He said
some people had spread all kinds of lies against his government, in a bid
to provoke a war between The Gambia and Senegal. "We will deal with such
people in due course. As long as they are within The Gambian territory, we
will get them. This is my warning to them. We must set a drastic
example."Jammeh threatened.
