BREAKING NEWS:CONFLICT OF INTEREST ENGULFS MOVEMENT FOR DEMOCRACY!!!!
                BY AN EDITOR
There is an internal rift within the US based Movement for Restoration of Democracy in The Gambia, as conflict of interest hits the Organization, following the UDP/NRP break away from NADD, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. There is a looming controversy on the organization’s budget that was raised to support NADD, but some group members say the funds were not meant for any single opposition party in the tiny West African country.

  UDP'S DARBOE AND NADD'S SALLAH!!!
The Freedom Newspaper, news researcher was informed by well placed sources close to the pro democracy group that the Movement, was faced by internal shake up, as opinions were divided about a recent correspondence issued by one of its prominent members , who expressed the need to tackle the growing conflict of interest affecting the organization.
While the Movement’s funds are yet to be released, it is reported that a call to support the media and students back home in The Gambia, was raised by its Chairman Saihou Mballow. However, sources say Mballow’s gesture came rather too late, when they say NADD was in dire need of financial help. The timing of Mballow’s gesture or suggestion to support The Gambian media and students is sending eyebrows amongst NADD supporters who charged that the move was politically motivated.
A certain Movement member was accused by Mballow for using the organization’s official email to send private correspondence. It is alleged that the controversy was sparked by a letter calling on group members to find ways and means to end the growing conflict of interest gripping the organization.
The Freedom Newspaper, was able to lay its hands on correspondence exchanged between the Movement’s President Saihou Mballow and Saul Mbenga. Below are the unedited mails forwarded to our news room by a well placed source.
  Saul Menga,
recently you have been sending your private mails from the Movement email address which is totally wrong and this one is an example. You must desist from such ugly behavior. You can only send mails from the Movement email address when you are sending an official statement otherwise it is rude forsomeone to do so. One time we talked about this you agreed to comply but still you are doing it.
The Movement is here to support all the five opposition political parties namely NPR, PPP, PDOIS,NDAM and UDP in their democratization efforts. It does not make any sense for you to mention any Party because no single party has control over the Movement.
You mentioned Bylaws or constitution, i am not aware of any Bylaws that we have ratified or voted to adopt. I am only aware of one which we drafted but never adopted.
Finally, all members of the Movement are free to support the party of their choice financial hence, unfortunately the five parties are not united. No one has the power to force people to contribute their monies to support a single party they do not want to sympathize or support.

Note: The Movement has other priorities right now to help the media and poor students who need help.]
  Sincerely,
  Saihou Mballow

Folks, as the die is cast on the NADD-UDP/NRP separation, it is urgent that, genuine members and supporters/contributors to the Movement and NADD, convene an emergency meeting to address the crisis and conflict of interest facing MODEGAM as structured and in the past practices its sole support for NADD,according to our constitution and bylaws.

Again, the time has come to reach an amicable understanding and respect for each others viewpoint and support of either NADD or UDP/NRP, not both.

During the next days, weeks and months, confidential information and correspondence, will be filtered through the movement's email address and it would be foolish and insincere to allow any party or parties to fall prey to our indecisiveness and loathsome
Feeling toward political liberation of Gambia. It is therefore, necessary to either: - Temporarily unlist the [log in to unmask] address, until the collective members decides where we go from here?- temporarily block all mails, except internal MODEGAM mails and those from the cyber 'bantaba' [G-l and Post]; Regardless, NADD is being notified to cease all official correspondence to MODEGAM until further notices since both Saihou and PaSaikou, contrary to Yanks, stated that the next meeting is slated for Sunday,3/26/06 instead of 3/12/06 respectively, March 26, Is the official date.
  Thanks!
  Saul Mbenga
PS. In the name of transparency and genuine democracy [not autocracy], please call or forward mail to active members/supporters of the Movement/NADD
Recently this paper, received a tip off regarding a controversy on a NADD budget, which seems to have divided the pro democracy group. The group’s Chairman Saihou Mballow at the time denied having knowledge about the said NADD fund. We put our story on hold and later expanded our investigations. Thanks to this well trusted source, we were able to lay our hands on the said correspondence hinting about an internal rift within the organization.

The Movement for the Restoration of Democracy in The Gambia, over the years had been very supportive to the country’s opposition. They helped a great deal in ensuring that the opposition meet their financial needs during election time. The group also succeeded in exposing the human rights atrocities perpetrated by the Jammeh administration. They organized protest actions in a bid to make the international community to be responsive to Gambia’s plight.
The Group’s Chairman Saihou Mballow, was not available for immediate comments.
