Declaration of Results

I, Gabriel John Roberts, Returning Officer of the Presidential Election
2001; having received and announced the results of the counting of votes
from the forty-eight assistant returning officers across the forty-eight
constituencies of the Gambia, in the presence of representatives of the five
contesting candidates, hereby wish to give the final results of the
elections as follows:

Bah, Hamat N. K.                                35, 671 Votes
Darboe, Ousainou                                149, 448 Votes
Dibba, Sheriff Mustapha                          17, 271 Votes
Jammeh, Yahya A. J. J.                          242, 302 Votes
Jatta, Sidia                                     13, 841 Votes


Having received 242,302 votes, which represents 52.96% of total votes cast
in the election, I hereby declare Yahya A. J. J. Jammeh as duly elected to
serve as President of the Republic of the Gambia.
