Fight 3rd Term, Says MP Matembe

FORMER ethics minister and Mbarara Woman MP Miria Matembe told the newly launched Mbarara civil society organisations (CSOs) forum to oppose the third term proposal.

Matembe, who was the chief guest at the launch of the forum that brings together all CSOs in the district, on Friday said they needed to criticise the government for its inability to bring services to the people.

She said they should not keep quiet when they had nothing to lose by speaking their minds.

She, however, urged them to promote government programmes like the immunisation campaign against measles.

"I want you to criticise government inability to bring services to the people. But don't go far. Don't just go for politicking. When good programmes come promote them. When third term comes you oppose it," Matembe said.

Matembe who excited the audience throughout her speech said she was learning, "to call a spade a small spoon," but was not finding it easy.

She attacked the new forum for not being gender balanced, having over 10 men and two women on the executive, yet there were more women than the men in CSOs.

"This is unfortunate especially in a district lead by no other than Miria Matembe," she said.
