Fire gutted local government offices

An outbreak of fire at the Department of State for Local Government and
Lands at the Quadrangle destroyed seventeen offices including the records
office and the office of the secretary of state. The cause of the fire is
yet to be determined but reliable sources from within the security personnel
on the ground have attributed it to an electrical problem presumably from an
air conditioner that might have been left on over night. The inferno
reportedly left three other departments in the building closed, prompting
their staff to close for that day.

When these reporters visited the scene, it was confirmed that up to 11am on
Friday morning, files and other important documents of the record office
were still burning and fire officers had to be called in again to put out
more fire.Inspector Sarjo Keita, the police PRO told journalists that the
matter was under investigation.

Meanwhile, a press release from the department indicated that “due to the
fire outbreak at the Quadrangle, the general public is hereby informed that
the department is temporarily housed at the Lands and Surveys building,
opposite the West African Exams Council.”
