As the political campaigning progresses with barely a little over a week to
the Presidential election, the mayor of Banjul, Samba Faal, has said that
Banjul was for President Jammeh and the APRC.

Speaking at a mass political rally organised by the Christian and Muslim
community of Banjul, Mayor Faal said, "Banjulians are known for their
patriotism and loyalty to the APRC and to President Jammeh in particular.

It is very clear that Banjul is for Jammeh and the APRC".

Mayor Faal predicted a landslide victory for President Jammeh come October
18. "The projects and aspiration of the incumbent, President Jammeh were
magnanimous enough to rally all the needed support for another convincing
victory for the APRC." Faal also condemned the opposition for what he called
politics of "empty promises". He also urged the electorate to go out early
on election day and fill the ballot box for President Jammeh.

Addressing the rally, Bai Taal, the APRC divisional chairman, said the type
of development undertaken in the past seven years by President Jammeh and
the APRC was remarkable. "From primary schools to university , roads to
bridges, hospitals , generators, just to name a few," he stated.

On the issue of human rights, Taal remarked, "we were all here in 1981 when
people from far away in the provinces who knew nothing about the abortive
coup, were arrested, jailed and murdered by the PPP regime, elements of whom
are now clamouring for human rights." Uncle Sam of the Christian community
also applauded President Jammeh for his religious tolerance. "He has been
governing with great passion and religions tolerance. Over the past seven
years, he has appointed several Christians to several decision-making
positions, including secretaries of state. President Jammeh, he added , had
also been gender sensitive in his appointments.

Other speakers at the rally included the SoS for interior and religious
affairs, Ousman Badjie, SoS for fisheries and natural resources, Susan Waffa
Ogoo, all applauded Jammeh's accomplishments and vision and predicted a
landslide victory for him.

The rally was also attended by Christen Grey-Johnson and Antouman Saho as
well as Aga Singhateh and Mammy Touray, among others. It was chaired by Mr
Thomasi.
