the journey is not long 
on the least trodden road to peace. 

It is not worth the while 
that we scramble and squabble
and tear apart our hearts and hopes 
our shared treasures broken to bits and pieces
we each want to take a piece more than we need.

We only need a little 
for us not to waste and abuse the grain
and no matter how big our take 
it will always end up in the drain. 

What else is there to boast
what else is there to gloat
what use is it to keep 
our cup more than it is full
we cannot drink it all 
yet others cannot have their fill?

And when we regain our minds
and want to relive our lives again
we will be secured in the knowledge
that life is like a drinking cup
and when we drink
we should pass the cup to the other to drink. 

And as we lie in that bed of remorse
and feel bitter 
about the things we haven't done much
and feel guilty
of the things that we have so much
and as we slowly and painfully 
drift into the abyss:
the mind begins to deteriorate
the body begins to breakdown
the soul is haunted 
as we turn to the dust that we shall return.
