This is a very sad news to hear. I have always had
high regard for this True Soldier. His military record
in Nigeria during the Civil War speaks volumes. Talk
about discipline and they will tell you that Uncle Sam
was exceptional. A friend of mine, a former Biafran
Soldier once confided to me about how Uncle Sam saved
his life and that of many other rebels from mass
execution.

My sincere condolences to Sillah Family, the UDP and
the Gambia Legion. Uncle Sam Sillah was a man of high
standards. The likes of Uncle Sillah with a military
title of Lt Col from from foreign country shows the
amount of talented people we have in the diaspora. I
must commend him for his sterling contribution to the
Gambia Legion. Our Second World War veterans have
definitely lost a true servant of high standards. It
is sad that he won't be there on 11 November 2001 to
lay the wreath at July 22 Square to commemorate the
War-dead, but are we surprise? No, because the Lord
Gaveth and the Lord has taketh away.

Grant eternal Oh Lord and let light perpetual shine
upon him, May His soul rest in perfect peace.

Thank you
Sanusi Owens
