  Dear Sir,

ASSAULT ON U.D.P/N.R.P CAMPAIGN TEAM IN CRD
  SOUTH

Our Campaigns team leaving the Niaminas and heading for the Fulladus was intercepted by one Manlafi Sanyang a police officer at Brikamaba.

Sanyang who was boarding a GG Pajero and followed by a pick up withYouths calling themselves APRC Action group blocked the highway and prevented the U.D.P/N.R.P team from proceeding towards Pacharr village. The Campaign team descended and protested to the driver and Manlafireacted by pulling out an A.K 47 assault rifle and threatened to shoot the members of the U.D.P/N.R.P team. The latter refused to be intimidated and after a few exchanges the team forced its way to Brikamaba police station to lodge their complain. The Police at Brikamaba refused to entertain the report made by the U.D.P/N.R.P team and referred ~hemto Bansang.

The matter has been reported to both Bansang and Banjul police stations.

The purpose of this letter is to alert you that the APRC has set the stage for electoral violence which is totally unacceptable to the U.D.P/N.R.P Alliance. We will not tolerate provocation and false arrests and Government sponsored charges on the pretext that we are causing trouble, when the reality is that APRC thugs headed by Security officers have been mobilized to provoke and attack our militants all over the country. The practice of JUSTICE PEACE PROGRESS turning the attackers and aggressors as the victims will be exposed as this has been the practice even after the Kombo East by-election. Presently those beaten, stoned and wounded are facing charges while the perpetrators of the crime are being paraded as the victims of the attack. "

The same Manlafi Sanyang, a police officer, who should be busy on internal security matters is busy campaigning for the APRC presidential Candidate and is seen in Brikamaba spraying new bank notes all over the village. How can an ordinary public servant display and dish out tens of thousands of dalasis of new bank notes if he is not empowered and mandated by someone else who is in possession of these financial resources and probably a stake holder? .J

We are informing the I.E.C and all those involved in the signing of the M.O.U about the conduct of this police officer who has openly manifested partisan support for the APRC and is going scotch free without any form ofreprimand from his superiors.

For a police officer to display assault rifles against innocent and defenseless civilians is the worst form of cowardice. Only cowards will threaten their own citizens with firearms but Gambians have got used to these terrortactics and will not be intimidated with this show of cowardice.

Finally we await your reaction but in the meantime we are gathering more evidences during the Campaign trail to enable us take the necessary steps and required action.

  Yours Faithfully,

  Femi Peters
