One of the country's most confrontational critics Lamin Waa Juwara is
determined not to be the odd politician out among opposition leaders as
they reacted in like manner to the angry vitriol unleashed on them by
President Jammeh.

Mr. Juwara the leader of the National Democratic Action Movement (NDAM)
described Jammeh as a man of many contradictions to which he has been
enmeshed and cannot extricate himself unless he were helped to do so. He
said it was inconceivable that a president of Jammeh's low calibre could be
allowed to rule a great nation like The Gambia and parade himself as the
laughing stock of the world by his "infantile and insane" remarks that can
only expose him as an ignorant and haughty brute, who reminds him of
Emperor Bokassa of the Central African Republic.

Juwara claimed that Jammeh has fashioned himself after Bokassi who in his
irreverent aversion to opposition had crowned himself Emperor of a small
country. "It was later discovered that he was insane. It is just a matter
of time before Jammeh is also discovered insane since he has been acting in
the same crassness as Bokassa" he claimed. He described Jammeh's "political
antics" against the opposition as the acts of an insecure politician who
cannot rely on his support base because there are none for him to rely on.

"Jammeh is so scared of the opposition that he has no stomach for any form
of democratic dispensation. The contradictions in his handling of state
affairs and his unwarranted interference into the personal life of citizens
portray his dictatorial tendencies. He pretends to be a Muslim when he is
not behaving as one, he pretends to be a democrat when he does not
understand the rudiments of democratic governance. He is the most
disrespected head of state both nationally and internationally and he is
the untrustworthiest politician the country has ever known because he never
keeps his words. He came to power declaring a crusade against corruption
and ended up being the most corrupt leader in the sub-region.

He declares himself as a man of peace yet subscribe to gun running by
indemnifying those behind the student carnage three years ago. He surrounds
himself with sycophants who sing his praise and give him the aura of a
false prophet, leading him to make blasphemous declarations against Islam"
Juwara posited.

He said in his naivety Jammeh had written to then President Clinton urging
him to interfere in the American judicial process to secure the release of
his friend Babanding Futanka Sissoho who was caught for alleged fraud. He
said this had embarrassed Gambians to the hilt.

According to Juwara, Jammeh is not only a liability to The Gambia but "he
is also a disgrace and with or without any coalition Gambians will be glad
to see the back of him in the 2006 Presidential elections".

Juwara is staunchly convinced that "the oppositions are capable of running
the country more effectively than Jammeh who has no qualification and
nothing to say about anybody".

He said a leader who has nothing up his brain could only resort to idle
talk about the veil and men marrying only one wife, which has led to him
being discredited more by his own supporters. He said the case against
President Jammeh was "too strong" to allow him to stay in office any longer
and should resign and save The Gambia from more indignities brought about
by the lack of direction of his rule, which has led to economic crisis and
religious confusion.
