Finally, Ould Taya's foolhardiness has cost him his job. It is just unbelievable how some leaders cannot learn from history. He knew it was coming all along since he had survived several coup attempts already.
His racist attitude towards black, non-Arab Mauritanians and the repressive nature of his regime was no secret.
If African despots cannot learn to allow peaceful transitions to power through democracy, then the only option is what we have seen today in Mauritania, however regrettable it is.
