As the elections get nearer and the stakes get higher, the Gambian
electorate is going to be left in utter confusion. Accusations and
counter accusations are very well going to dominate the campaigns, and
this reaffirmed a political reality that issues don’t necessarily win
elections. Like American political pundits would say, negative
campaigning is not issue oriented but it works. We, as the opposition
cannot endure another five year term under a Jammeh administration,
therefore we need to do whatever it takes to get our government back,
peacefully of course

To the opposition, it is important to keep reminding the Electorate that
sitting Governments can loose elections, and can be replaced by new
leadership. Show them how our neighbors, the Senegalese are able to
replace a Government that was not in tune with the development of
Senegal. All over the world Senegal and Senegalese are seen as one of
the champions of a new Africa. Slogans should be coined to reinforce
this to the Gambian electorate that if Senegal can do it, Gambia can
definitely do it. Folks, most Gambians under normal circumstances will
not work into a pooling booth and vote for Jammeh, but sitting
governments can always have some impact in the psyche of most of our
brothers in the continent. Like my Wollof people would say “ Ken du keh
ak Ngurr” (Nobody should fight a government). This Mansa mentality needs
to be demystified. All Opposition parties should use their radio ads,
campaign stops and posters to tell Gambians that If Senegal can do it,
Gambia can definitely do it. Reinforcement and reinforcement to this
slogan reality can be one of the keys to victory.
