The cracks are beginning to show as the APRC's militants fight over the
spoils of State corrupt. Let us hope and pray that as the momentum building
up against them gathers pace, they continue grab each other's throats as they
fight over spoils of their ill-gotten gains. Ameen to that!

Janjangbureh protest mars revolution celebrations

Janjangbureh was thrown into a spell of protest and demonstration as the
town prepared to celebrate the anniversary of the July 22 revolution. Youths
of the town were agitated when news spread that Cherno Barra Touray who was
said to have been fired as Commissioner was back in the town as
commissioner. This news brought a lot of confusion as certain prominent APRC
members were still celebrating Touray's alleged firing. As soon as it was
confirmed that Touray was back in town as commissioner again, a group of
youths joined by many elderly people took to the streets of Janjangbureh to
protest and demonstrate at Touray's reported reinstatement. They chanted
slogans like "we don't want Touray, we want Baldeh".

Our reporter followed the crowd heading towards the market keeping a
distance of about 100m. Soon after they stopped and an individual began to
address them. It was Modou Soma Jobe who advised them to be calm and join
the celebrations. Mr. Jobe assured them that things were going to be
alright. The protesters strongly warned Mr. Jobe that they will go home
without attending the celebrations if Mr. Hamidou Baldeh, the assistant
commissioner did not take the salute. They also told Mr. Jobe that they do
not want to see Mr. Touray at the celebrations as he is not their
commissioner. The group then moved to Armitage Senior Secondary School
grounds as the venue for the celebrations, which began with a march pass by
the youth wing, women groups, APRC supporters the police and many other
groups. Mr. Hamidou Baldeh, the assistant commissioner CRD took the salute
as Cherno Bara Touray kept away.

After the march pass the crowd started to disperse without waiting for Mr.
Baldeh's speech. It was then that certain men in green caps ran after people
convincing them that they should go back and wait for the program to finish.
As Mr. Baldeh was called to take the microphone to give his speech, the
group calling themselves The Youth Wing insisted that Mr. Baldeh was the
Commissioner. When the noise died down Mr. Baldeh then spoke, praising
President Jammeh and calling on the people to vote for him in the October
elections. He cited many projects which he said were undertaken by President
Jammeh. After the celebrations so-called Youth Wing members went to the
commissioner's residence chanting "Touray out". There were armed soldiers
stationed at the gate who turned away the crowd. Meanwhile Mr. Touray could
not be reached for comments.
