OPINION NADD'S ACTIONS SHOULD NOT BE JUDGED IN A CRISES SITUATION By Lamin Sanyang

---------------------------------

November 22, 2005
First of all I would like to thank allgambian.net for creating a forum for political discussions and news. Particular acknowledgement and thanks are due for the contributions of all Gambians who not only participated with their subjective views but came up with suggestions to tackle the Gambia's current political situation.

I know some of your writers will be critised for making inappropriate and misguided remarks while based in America. Some of the remarks were made in an informal and personal capacity but they ran the risk of undermining the allgambian.net reputation for impartiality. If the ultimate aim of your online paper is to take on the government, that will also undermine your audience confidence because subjectivity will be the rule.

I felt very bruised by the arrest and detention of some of our political figures whose role is to bring the government to account. NADD's name is indelibly inscribed, not only in The Gambia but also in the international community. The rebirth NADD's domestic reputation lay in the request and aspirations for change

Behaving in a delinquent fashion or political rage linked to systematic wide- ranging slanderous campaign aimed at discrediting government some times work, but it will work best if you all return to the Gambia. Some writers never exercise resilience with what is going on and start to savage the reputation of NADD. By coming up with flamboyant and colourful language and headlines like what is Sidia doing and also stating views that contrast NADD's opinion on the current political situation..

I know for certain, no political struggle will be effective in the USA, How many Gambians have internet access or PCs. if you have/ established a well founded fear of prosecution if you return, who is will take the risk to do it for you. Some called for popular uprising, popular uprising are initiated by people practically. Some of the writers had experienced political vitimisation, escaped and staying abroad. How many times was Aboulie Wade of Senegal imprisoned, what about Nelson Mandela, the struggle for democracy and independent in most African countries, they all stay, fight the course, faced all kinds of harassment and prosecutions. If they all ran and launch their struggle in the USA who will listen to them (fight and I enjoy).

The might of the pen is important. If you have a theoretical objectives, you can use the pen, but turning the theoretical objectives into objectives reality should be practical and some one have to do it. who will be the initiator, PA Nderry Mbai, Babucarr, Essa Bucarr Sey, Pa Samba, Mr Jow, Mr Minteh, Saihou Mballow etc. I do not want to hear messages like Gambia is unsafe to return. but on the other hand some of you think it is safe for people to start an uprising.

NADD will succeed, not because of the deeds of some writers in allgambian.net but the struggle conducted within NADD and supporters in The Gambia.

The growing anxiety about government undemocratic actions should not be used by foreign based critics to tarnish NADD's name or make phrases that are injudicious.
