A draft loan agreement for a 24 million dollar road project for the
construction of a road network linking Farafenni and Lamin Koto in the North
Bank Division, has been finalised.

The project will be financed by the Kuwait government through the Kuwaiti
fund for Arab Economic Development. The agreement was signed on Tuesday at
the department of state for finance and economic affairs in Banjul by the
Secretary for Finance Famara Jatta and the Engineering advisor for the
Kuwaiti fund Dr Nabil Abdulraheem.

In a brief statement he made, Mr Jatta expressed hope that the road project
would help boost the socio-economic development along the south bank of the
country, which he noted is the main trade route between the Gambia and
neighbouring countries. He also assured the Kuwait delegation that the
Gambia would meet its payment obligation on time.

On his part, Dr Nabil Abdulraheem, said his country is committed to the
development of the Gambia and that efforts are being made for a speedy
implementation of the road project.

The signing ceremony was chaired by the permanent secretary for finance
Dodou Bammy Jagne. It was witnessed by the secretary of state foir justice
Joseph Henry Joof, the Deputy permanent secretary for Works Abdoulie Jobe,
among other government officials.
