I know Abdoulie Touray to be very articulate. With his GCCI team, they can drive some sanity into the APRC and their policies of econmic contraction!!

Written by Ebrima Jaw Manneh Wednesday, 05 October 2005 President Yahya Jammeh on Monday met with a high-powered delegation of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) at State House.
Although officials would not disclose the details of the meeting, Abdoulie Touray, president of GCCI, told journalists shortly after the meeting that they discussed the possible effects of the border crisis on the economy and a speedy resolution of the problem. “We have discussed how we can move ahead,” he said.

He maintained that the border standoff should not have happened in the first place going by the historical linkage between the two neighbouring countries. He added: “One has to understand that The Gambia and Senegal are predestined by nature to be one people, despite the fact that we are one nation by modern day description. There is not a single Gambian who does not have relative in Senegal, and the same thing goes for Senegal. So the question of by-passing Senegal to explore the markets of other countries or Senegal by-passing The Gambia should not be on the agenda. We want to make sure that we maintain good relations with Senegal,” he said.

The GCCI boss added: “We are working within a globalised world, where integration is the order of the day. We should be the pacesetters for economic integration and sub-regional cooperation,’’ he said.

Mr Touray expressed the hope that with goodwill, the border impasse will be resolved as soon as possible.
