Subject: FW: Frederick Douglass Institute Fellowship Program

Frederick Douglass Institute for African and African-American Studies
University of Rochester.

The Frederick Douglass Institute offers three types of residential
fellowship to pursue interdisciplinary research on the people of Africa
and its Diaspora. Fellows receive:
.. office space in the institute,
.. full access to the University's facilities and,
.. opportunities for collaboration.

********The Postdoctoral fellowship, which carries a stipend of $35,000,
supports the completion of a project. During the tenure of the award,
the postdoctoral fellow will have departmental affiliation, will teach
one course and will conduct a seminar.

********The Predoctoral Dissertation fellowship provides a stipend of
$12,000. The predoctoral fellow focuses primarily on completing the
dissertation but also works with the Institute's director to organize
colloquium, lectures and other events.

********Fellowship for Graduate Studies, with tuition and academic year
stipends ranging from $8,000 to $12,000.

All fellows must be in full time residence during the tenure of their
awards and they are expected to be engaged in scholarly activity on a
full-time basis. For example fellows must be available for consultation
with students and professional colleagues; make at least two formal
presentations based upon their research; and contribute generally to the
intellectual discourse on African and African-American Studies.

Application deadline is January 31.
