Lamin:
Foot is feeling OK now to the point where I could go hiking in the mountains
again yesterday. It was off the hook; deer and all sorts of exotic birds and
animals were out there. I guess a twisted ankle and bum knee are small
prices to pay for such awesome encounters with nature. :) I wish we could
take advantage of our natural flora and fauna in The Gambia by making it
easier for citizens and tourists alike to have access to these areas. And of
course by access, I don't mean Abuko or Tendaba camp, resorts which have been
there for umpteen years.

I think we agree on the fundamentals about this issue; i.e., that the
Palestinians are oppressed and they accordingly need their own state. Where
we disagree however is on their method of resistance, suicide bombings in
particular. I abhor that type of activity and Sept 11 just reinforced my
this view.

However, I think with time change will come. The Palestinians need to take
heart in the Almighty and also in examples from the past which have shown one
can only put a people down for so long. For example, blacks in the USA,
Africans under apartheid and Indians under English regime all suffered brutal
oppression not very dissimilar to what the Palestinians experience today.
Yet they were all able to break free from the chains of bondage by using
nonviolent tactics. All these changes, combined with a change in US policy
will see to the smashing of current status quo in Isreal.

Change will also come from inside Israel also. Last nite, 60 Minutes,
apopular show around these parts, showed a special on Israeli Refuseniks or
those who do not want to serve in the army in the ocuupied territories. They
cited some of the reasons we've talked about here as their motives. So
change is already coming from within and the momentum will certainly
continue.

I am glad that we our views are beginning to converge. This way, I don't
have to fight you O!

Regards,
Yus
