OPINION What Our Readers Say Letters to the Editors

---------------------------------

December 10, 2005
RE: I Travelled From Banjul to Sweden Without a Passport -Says Elhajj Fye as he Exposes President "Jammeh and his Corrupt Gov't"Dear Editor,
Once again please allow me a space in your news paper to express my opinion and doubts to the above story that appeared a couple of weeks ago.

I read this online web every day even though i do not agree with some of the stories. After reading this story i asked myself thousands of questions. What does the President or Yankuba Touray has to do with this issue?

Ofcourse the government of the Gambia maybe wrong for keeping his passport but there maybe thousands of reasons which you (Mr.Editor) and i did not know. If Mr. Faye was granted any kind of help he would have taken it and since this was never done he decided to sit on the other side of the fence to expose the president for his own personal problems. He has to fully understand that just because he gave Yahya Jammeh a ride back in the days and him being a famous business man does not mean that things has to be the way he wants. The decision of the court of law has to be considered and if he is absent the Judge will ofcourse rule in favour of the other.

Mr.editor these are some of the reasons why i am always questioning the credibility of your paper. If I were you before publishing this story I would ask for some more evidence (bill of sale for the said Car). How can you justify this story, that the other party was totally wrong? Common sense should have told you that if you signed a bill of sale and a down payment of D12, 000.00, how comes would he pay D20, 000? Did you ask him that question or has common sense, honesty and ethics of journalism failed you?

Do not get me wrong i like your endeavours in writing but you need to read a little bit more to understand the job you are doing. That's is because a lot of people are questioning about the credibility of this paper and that can lead you to loosing the trust and respect people has for you because in anything you are doing, you should never forget to make sure that it falls within the four corners of respect, Dignity and trust. So always balance your stories, that is one of the most important things you should remember in journalism. Thanks

Augustus Mendy OPINIONMr. Mbaye,
kindly let me borrow some space to voice my concern about the way you've turned your website into a Gambian tabloid newspaper. I think you certainly do not know the fundamental virtuality of professional writing and journalism in particular. I believe you have broken every rule in the book of professional Journalism by sometimes reporting issues that are of no importance to the cause of the struggle or the Gambia in general. I would like you to sometimes give us more educational developments about the Gambia, having in mind that not all your readers are politicians or are interested in politics. I'm sure come 2006, there is nothing you can do for NADD when they need you the most because you won't be able to vote. "Salut" and I hope you can follow the ethical guidelines of journalism or stop calling yourself a professional journalist. TABLOID TALK is a better definition of your writing hobby. Thank you

Matarr Sillah
