Highly placed sources at the State House in Banjul, have confirmed a
meeting between President Yahya Jammeh and exiled army major Omar Fye,
who returned to Banjul recently on the  pretext of  securing a
ministerial job from the Jammeh administration.  Mr.Fye who was resident
in Atlanta,  was said to have been promised with a  ministerial job by
President Jammeh. Insiders at the state house say the former major had
fruitful discussions with the Head of state, who assured him that he
harboured no grudges against him and it was time for people like Fye to
join him in steering the affairs of the state.

Major Fye,  is a   trained infantry soldier who received series of
military training overseas.  He retired from the Gambian army shortly
after the 1994, July 22ND Military coup. Sources say Fye was in the US at
the time of the coup together with Captain Ebou Jallow , Lie Conteh and
Peter Singhateh studying. For some reasons, Major Fye decided to quit the
army and resides in the US.

Fye, believed to be a US subject  was on Gambia Radio and Television
Services applauding President Jammeh and his government for having
recorded  significant developments in a span of eleven years.  Fye who was
interviewed by Alhagie Mansour Njie praised President Jammeh for advancing
Gambia's socio -economic development. The former Army Major said Gambians
should rally behind Jammeh.

Major Fye's presence in Banjul, according to sources was facilitated by
Alhagie Muntaha Fye, Deputy Imam of Banjul, who was recently in the United
on a private visit.  Sources say both Imam Fye and Major Fye were in  New
York to meet President Jammeh, who was there to witness the UN General
Assembly Summit.  Sources say Major Fye had a close door meeting with The
Gambian President at a New York Hotel, where they discussed the  need for
Fye to return home.   Fye welcomed Jammeh's offer by visiting The Gambia,
a country, he missed for eleven years.

A concerned Family member told The ALLGAMBIAN that Major Fye made the
greatest mistake of his life by accepting to reconcile with President
Jammeh who had destroyed the fabric of society in The Gambia.  "We don't
expect him to go so low like this.  We are not surprised.  All this was
masterminded by Muntaha Fye."said the family member.

The family member said he will not rule out reports that Fye must have
been allegedly  induced by the President  and with promises to offer him
something.  Many Gambians were shocked to hear major Fye praising
President Jammeh, considering his priniciples.  Fye was recalled by the
junta in the early days of the coup, but he refused.  The likes of Ebou
Jallow, Lie Conteh and Peter Singhateh returned home and teamed up with
their military colleagues to steer the affairs of the state.

Efforts to solicit reaction from major Fye proved unsuccessful, as he was
not available for comments.
