Edith-
some of the most compelling evidence comes from looking at how active HG's
were and the types of foods available to feed that activity level. With
more equatorial HG's amount of meat varied dramaticly from season to season.
Interestingly, in some groups living in especially abundant areas, basic
caloric and nutritional needs COULD have been met EASIER with vegetable
matter with no additional meat. All of these people however chose to hunt.
A fantastic book: Kung San Men, Women, and Work in a foraging society. Old
but worth the read.
