Among modern hunter-gatherers (HGs), many of whom are exceptionally strong,
strength is developed in two ways: 1) carrying relatively heavy loads and 2)
performing brief, intense movements. Hunters must sprint, climb, carry and
throw spears, use bows, carry their kill back to camp, etc. Women carry
babies, gather an enormous amount of food, etc.

HGs spend most of their day either resting or playing. On average, an HG
spends less than 20 hours per week involved in "work" including hunting,
gathering, food preparation, tool making, clothes-making, building shelter,
etc. (see "Man the Hunter" edited by Richard Lee). Gossip is ofthen their
primary diversion.
