Here's something that I've been trying that people may find useful.  If you
are deadlifting or squatting, take your shoes off and do it barefoot.
Certainly, hunter-gatherers lifted in their bare feet.

Also, I have been reading some things about running barefoot.  Some
conjecture that modern running shoes cause many running injuries because
they place the feet in unnatural positions.  A non-scientific but fun link is:
