Faigan has "scientific/biochemical" reasons for preferring starchy carbs
- It is quite technical, and I dont truly understand it, so I wont quote.
But he also has other reasons : "pleasure" (ex. pizza) , and the wish to
include foods that (quote) "has become part of american culture" (grain?).

NHE-diets objectives are fat-loss ,muscle-gain and health/longevity. Theese
objectives would not neces
sarily have been the same for hunter-gatherers.
Fat-GAIN whenever possible would be have been the objective ; and as
Faigan points out muscle is "energy-expensive" tissue to maintain - so
a hunter-gatherer, would have built only the necessary amount of muscles.
Longevity might not have been very important for passing on your genes.

It might be that (refined) starchy carbs do further the NHE-objectives
better than sugary carbs (while sugary might be more paleo).
