Phil, I had a room mate in bible school who was into martial arts. One
interesting thing that he told me, was that although the martial arts can
be used offensively, the idea was not to get hit. In boxing, boxers trade
punches, but with the martial arts, one uses defense to not get hit. He
demonstrated this to me, once, as when I tried to hit him, any blows I
tried were knocked aside. He put on a demo for a bunch of the students,
where he broke coarse grained concrete and wood. So, I think these martial
arts can be an effective tool in helping to present the gospel.
