> In 1985, the Lord led us to a church where we discovered Christians that really believed in prayer. The Lord had told me in my office one night, as I prayed, that He was calling me to be an intercessor. I knew the word but I told the Lord, "I don't even know what an intercessor does." I found out when we joined this church I mentioned. Eventually, the pastor appointed me to lead a group of the church members into an intercessory prayer group. We had 6 to 10 people every Monday night and we saw some amazing things occur. I was thinking of this prayer group recently when a memory popped up. One of the men at the prayer meeting of intercessors said he knew an older lady in another church that was always taking her false teeth out because they bothered her all the time. People who do that, such as my oldest sister, are forever losing their teeth. I lost count of how many times I've gotten a call from my sister, or her husband, so Sandy and I could start praying she'd find her teeth. Well, one night this guy asked us to pray this woman would find her teeth. She had torn her car apart, looking every where for them, and she had done the same in her home. They were lost. That night, our intercessory prayer group prayed about finding her teeth. This group really knew how to pray and we prayed until we got an answer. The next week, the guy requesting prayer for his friend to find her teeth reported she had found them like the next day or something. She found them in plain sight on the passenger's seat. Yes, that's right. Those teeth had not been there before but somehow they showed up. I have been greatly concerned for the body of Christ over the years, and especially for pastors, who don't have, at the very least, a prayer group in their church. No, I am not talking about a prayer line where everybody calls someone in the church to pray. That's fine, of course, but I'm talking about a group of intercessors who pray for specifically the church where they attend. Jesus said His house would be called the house of prayer. I've only been a member of one church that believed in such prayer and I miss it very much. This doesn't count the prayer group that met every Friday night in our home and prayed accordingly. Those were some great times of prayer and worship such as is rarely experienced in the lives of most Christians.
