Hi, all. Yesterday when we went to see Mom, she didn't seem very
perky. Dan went over and kissed her, and said she felt a little warm.. My
brother had been over the day before, although he was sick (I found out
later he wears gloves and a mask when he does that), and so we thought
perhaps she'd gotten a little bug. She wasn't too hungry, but did decide
she'd like a bowl of cereal, and chuckled a couple times, so we didn't
think much of it. I didn't smell anything, but Dan said she smelled like
pee, which still wasn't surprising, since she refuses to change clothes and
is stubborn about bathing.

This morning when the caregiver came over, she found Mom still sitting in
her same chare, having majorly wet and soiled herself. Mom was
unresponsive. The caregiver started trying to reach us, but we were all at
work. The company finally called my sister-in-law's cell phone, and she
came right over. My sister-in-law said the smell in the apartment
practically bowled her over, and I guess they had quite a time getting my
mom cleaned up. My sister-in-law called 911, and they took her to the
hospital in an ambulance. They thought she might have pneumonia or a
urinary tract infection, but all tests so far have come back normal. Dan
and Jen and I went to see her this evening, and although she opened her
eyes for a second when we first walked into the room, she closed them right
away, and was non-responsive. There was a period today when she was awake
enough to talk to my sister-in-law, and recognized her as a friend, but
didn't know who she was. When my brother came, she thought he was my dad,
who passed away in 1995. Then she went back to her non-responsive
state. The doctor called this evening and talked to my brother, and asked
if Mom has signed a paper refusing extraordinary measures to save her life,
which she has, so it doesn't sound good. My sister-in-law says that my
mom's look is like what her grandmother looked like a few days before she
died. I'm praying that they either quickly find what's wrong and fix it if
it can be fixed, or that Mom passes quickly if it can't be fixed. I tend
to think the latter is what will happen. So keep us in your thoughts and
prayers, okay?

Peggy
