I got this from another list I'm on, sent by another member:

here is the background of the song "On Eagles Wings," followed by the words.
>
> This extremely popular Christian song was written by Jan Michael Joncas in only a few days in 1976 for the funeral of the father of a dear friend. It was meant to be sung with a cantor singing the more difficult verses and the congregation joining in on the chorus. But, to the amazement of the composer, many congregations are singing both parts. Today the song is sung at many, many funeral services. It is based on Psalm 91 and Isaiah 40:31 which says, "But they who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
>
> Jan Michael Joncas was born in 1951 in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and became a Catholic priest, liturgical theologian and composer of contemporary Catholic music. Today he is a priest in the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis and is a professor at St. Thomas Aquinas College. Father Joncas has composed more than 300 liturgical songs, but "On Eagles' Wings" is his most popular.
>
> Below are the words to this song.
>
> 1. You who dwell in the shadow of the Lord,
> Who abide in His shadow for life,
> Say to the Lord, "My refuge, my Rock
> In whom I trust!"
>
> Chorus: And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
> Bear you on the breath of dawn,
> Make you to shine like the sun
> And hold you in the palm of His hand.
>
> 2. The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
> And the famine will bring you no fear,
> Under His wings your refuge,
> His faithfulness your shield.
> Chorus:
>
> 3. You need not fear the terror of the night,
> Nor the arrow that flies by day,
> Though thousands fall about you,
> But near you it will not come.
> Chorus:
>
> 4. For to His angels He's given a command,
> They shall guard you in all of your ways,
> Upon their hands they will bear you up,
> Lest you strike your foot against a stone.
> Chorus:
>
> And now you know the story behind this lovely Christian song which incidentally I received in the mail just yesterday. Should any of you be grieving over the loss of a loved one today, I pray that the foregoing words ministered to you.
>
> And that will do it for now. Until tomorrow when, Lord willing another Daily Thought message and article will be posted, may the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob just keep us safe, individually and collectively, in these last days in which we live. Your Christian friend and brother, Paul
