Pat,

It is a window type and it depends on your definition of quiet.  In respect
to the window type I had before, this one is quieter.  In a small room, it
really isn't all that quiet but just more so than the other one I had that
died in the 104 degree temps we had last week.  Also, although it is a
window type air conditioner, it is mounted through a wall and closer to the
ceiling so the air makes it to the back of the two rooms.
