So I'm driving along at night with 50,000 pounds of foundry steel behind me.
This was back around the time the Beach Boys had that hit Kokomo, that thing
was on the radio about every 3rd song. 

You heard it I'm sure... Aruba, Jamaica, ooh I wanna take ya to Bermuda,
Bahamas, come on pretty mamma. Oh I wanna go, down to Kokomo. Something like
that anyway.

I decided to exit off the highway for a little break somewhere down in
Indiana. Coming off the off ramp, there were no lights and I'm thinking, 

"Hey, things are a little dark here. Where was that road again?"

All of the sudden the cab starts rocking and bouncing around, the wheel is
twisting and turning, buzzers are going off and I'm thinking, "Brad?
Something ain't right in Indiana here."

In about a half a second I figure I've got about two choices, crank that
wheel left? Or crank that wheel right.

Eenie meenie mynee , woe! 

I think right.

I'm here typing now, and so I guess it was the right direction.

After I gained color back in my face and got to the truck stop. I bunked out
til morning and decided no more nighttime driving for me. 'smile'.

Wasn't long after that I was diagnosed with RP. It's amazing what one will
put themselves through in desperation to provide for the family. It wasn't
like I didn't know I had vision issues, but it only showed up as such in
certain conditions and one is always thinking you can handle things. I mean,
I didn't know anything about blindness and such. Seems crazy now to have put
myself through the stress I  was at the time.
