Phil,
Good question.  Doesn't the catechism say that the chief end of man is to
serve God and enjoy Him forever?I think that we often believe that our
purpose is a function.  We get that from our western culture, but I
wonder if our purpose is more in being, growing and praising rather than
works.  Works enable us to still focus on ourselves and say, "Look what I
did for you God."  Being dependent allows us to continue focusing on what
He has done for us.  Also, being, equalizes all of us, disabled and able
alike because we can all be in Christ no matter how capable or incapable
we are.
